Design agency William Lane Architect left its mark on Miami in 1995 with the design of 5 vibrant lifeguard towers after Hurricane Andrew devastated the coast. Dotting Miami seaside, they shortly grew to become iconic photographs expressing the city’s revitalization and cultural rebirth.


Almost twenty years later, the studio was invited once more to design 36 lifeguard towers spreading throughout essentially the most beloved shoreline in Florida. Walking from the tip of Miami Beach at South Point Park to 86th Street, it’s not possible to miss the vivid and dynamic lifeguard towers. William Lane Architect fashioned six new prototypes to switch the 36 current ones. The outcome sees a junction level of structure and artwork, positively bearing the architect’s design signature.


Over 40 playful and colourful schemes in pinks, yellows, greens, oranges, and purples, make their presence seen from afar, attracting passers-by with their playful pitch. Applying a brilliant wealthy shade palette reflecting tropical fauna, together with wooden, the towers categorical the id and tradition of Miami seaside.

a retro-style setting for summer season lovers


With dominant colours and crowd pleasing particulars, the buildings add a splash of enjoyable and rejoice their presence. Each of them performs with geometries, rooflines, and contours enlivening the seaside as a public house. Blending with different summer season props, resembling umbrellas, towels, and deck chairs, the seaside is reworked right into a retro-style scene for younger and previous. 


All the towers stand on a skeleton base uplifting the whole construction to 2 meters and topped by a protruding roof that protects the lifeguards from the weather. Somewhere between performance and cult aesthetics, the ensuing designs go far past conventional lifeguard stands.
