Malkin scores twice as Penguins beat Red Wings 7-2 | Sports



DETROIT — Evgeni Malkin scored two objectives, and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Detroit Red Wings 7-2 on Saturday.

Kris Letang had a objective and two assists for the playoff-bound Penguins, who gained for the third time in 4 video games. Sidney Crosby, Rickard Rakell and Chad Ruhwedel every completed with a objective and an help.

“Our success comes when everybody’s kind of pulling the same direction,” Letang mentioned. “Sid attracts so many eyes on the ice that leaves other players with a lot more time.”

“Rak’s goal was huge,” Penguins coach Mike Sullivan mentioned. “We just went back to work. I think when you can respond and score a goal, it just settles things down, and we got better as the game went on.”

Letang then made it 4-2 at 11:37, and Malkin added a power-play objective with 3:37 left within the second.

The Penguins stored up their play within the third. Danton Heinen scored his 18th objective at 5:38, and Malkin closed it out along with his nineteenth within the last minute.

“I thought we were a little bit flat there in the second half of the game,” Red Wings defenseman Danny DeKeyser mentioned. “They’ve got so many guys that can put the puck in the net that eventually, it’s going to cost you.”
