the architectural gallery area by sir david adjaye

While a whitewashed gallery area may spotlight the wealthy textures of the artist’s work (typically painted upon discovered objects and furnishings items), Sir David Adjaye organizes the exhibition ‘Jean-Michel Basquiat: King Pleasure’ extra architecturally. The gallery is reworked into a posh streetscape, completed with textural wooden panelling to emphasise the artist’s deep reference to town.

Meandering by this recreated ‘neighborhood,’ the customer passes by a meticulous recreation of Jean-Michel’s childhood townhouse and his artwork studio. Every final element has been accounted for, from a wall of bookshelves and spices within the kitchen, to color splatters and scattered VHS tapes.
