Have fun studying, writing, and illustrating with the children at ‘Once Upon a BookFest’


The free occasion lands in Ashland on May 14.


It’s been a troublesome time for books currently, what with all of the discuss of banning, pulling, and in any other case disrespecting even licensed classics. What higher time to introduce a teen in your life to the enjoyment of studying — and get them face-to-face with some real-life writers and illustrators?

That’s precisely what the organizers of “Once Upon A BookFest” take note of. Coming to MetroWest on Saturday, May 14, the free occasion is billed as “A Festival For The Young At Heart,” and goals to have a good time youngsters’s books, authors, and readers starting from image books to center grade to YA, together with comics (after all).

The occasion will function appearances by authors and illustrators together with Nandini Bajpai (“Red Turban White Horse”), LJ Baptiste (“COMIXSCAPE”), Josh Funk (“Lady Pancake & Sir French Toast”), Jannie Ho (“Mitzi and the Big Bad Nosy Wolf”), Kelly Light (“Louise Loves Art”), Debbi Michiko Florence (“Keep It Together, Keiko Carter”), Mark Parisi (“Marty Pants”), Tak Toyoshima (“Secret Asian Man”), and lots of others.

“Local families will have an opportunity to ask questions about the creative process, participate in activities, and be exposed to various cultures represented in stories and illustrations,” stated organizer Bonnie Mitchell of the Arts Ashland Alliance. “The event will reinforce the value of reading, inspire children to write and/or illustrate their own stories and create a greater awareness of resources available at the library.”

Visitors may also count on hands-on workshops, writer displays, and e book promoting and signing — plus, meals vans! Once Upon A BookFest occurs Saturday, May 13 from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.  at Ashland Public Library.
